Governor - Thomas Grubb

Grubby or Puff, as he's known around Wheatley, transitions from GM to Governor, representing the club at the PJHL Board of Governors table, with a focus on fundraising and hockey operations.

Thomas brings an impressive "how to win championship's" resume with him as he began his playing career in the Southpoint Minor Hockey system winning a OMHA, OHF Championship as a Peewee.  He then jumped to the Wheatley Sharks for two seasons before joining the Leamington Flyers for one season where he ended his Junior career and went on to accept a Scholarship to Central Michigan University to play Division I Baseball.  He received top honours playing there as he was awarded Team MVP and All-Mid-American Conference Awards.  Thomas has won 2 National Baseball Championships and 8 Ontario Championships for the Windsor Stars Sr. baseball team, and 1 Ontario Championship with the Windsor Selects.

Thomas has also coached in the Southpoint Minor Hockey system for 4 years and was the hitting coach for the Windsor Selects U18 Baseball Team.

General Manager - Josh Carnevale

After 14 seasons behind the Sharks bench, the last 6 as Head Coach, Josh Carnevale transitions to the General Manager role for this upcoming season.  Josh is looking forward to continuing with Sharks off-ice, building a team Wheatley can be proud of, while pursuing that elusive Division championship for the community of Wheatley.

Josh's playing resume includes 3 years of AAA hockey with the Sun County Panthers where they  finished 4th in Ontario at the OHL Cup during his  Minor Midget year. He  played 4 seasons for the Leamington Flyers Junior B hockey club and finished his playing career with the Wheatley Sharks, Captaining the team in his final season.

Head Coach - Brad Hyatt

Brad Hyatt, better known as Dudz, is well known around the community of Wheatley, and arguably one of the most successful hockey players to call Wheatley home. 

Brad played his minor hockey in Wheatley, was drafted to the OHL in 1985 by Cornwall, making OHL stops in Hamilton, Belleville & Windsor. Brad's 1987-88 season with the Windsor Spitfires was especially impressive as he led all defenseman in the OHL with 88 points (24G, 64A), while leading the Windsor Spitfires to a Memorial Cup appearance. Dudz was subsequently drafted to the NHL by the Los Angeles Kings and continued his career at the AHL level with New Haven Nighthawks.

Brad returned home to Wheatley to raise a family & pursue a career in policing with Chatham-Kent Police service.  Dudz continued his passion for hockey, by coaching in the Southpoint Minor Hockey system, while also serving as assistant coach of Wheatley Sharks for several seasons. The Sharks made the Great Lakes Jr.C League finals on several occasions with Brad assisting behind the bench.

The Sharks look forward to what Brad can bring to a new generation of Sharks players as Head Coach !!

 

 

Assistant Coach - Darryl Glasier

Duff, as he's known around Wheatley, continues in role as the clubs Alternate Governor, representing the Sharks at the PJHL Board of Governors table when needed. Duff also began coaching the Sharks this past season, assisting Josh Carnevale, and will remain in that that role assisting Brad Hyatt this coming season.

Duff brings years of experience, with 20 years of coaching in local minor hockey in all divisions from U6 - U18. His playing days included captaining Sharks league rival Blenheim Blades in the late 90s.

Duff has also served several years on the Board of Directors for Southpoint Minor Hockey in various roles as Vice President, Rep Director, IP Director while also sitting on several committees, most recently serving on the amalgamation committee that worked tirelessly on a Partnership model, which brought Southpoint & Essex together under a newly created Rep system called Talbot Trail Blazers hockey.

Goalie Coach - Stefan Taylor

Guppy, as he's known around Wheatley, will be taking a more active role with the Goalies for the 2023-24 season. Gupp is a former goalie playing for the Leamington Flyers in the 90s, and has coached several local goalies on the minor hockey scene over the last 15 years, including local NHL draft pick and professional goaltender Tyler Wall. Gupp will work with the goalies, both on the ice, and also at the mental side of the game off the ice.

Assistant Coach - Paul Gossman

Goose, as he is known around Leamington & Wheatley, had a very successful playing career through the 90s, including multiple OMHA & OHF Championships during his minor hockey days in Southpoint, while also winning a Schmalz Cup Championship with the Belle River Canadiens of the Great Lakes Junior C Hockey League.

Goose also was drafted by the Plymouth Whalers of the OHL, and played for the Sharks as a 16 yr old in 1997-98 season. Unfortunately, an injury sidelined him the following year, and mid year he joined the Belle River Canadiens blueline. After winning a Schmalz Cup, he headed up north to play Jr. A hockey in Thunder Bay of the SIJHL. When his playing days were over, Goose began his coaching career by becoming the Defense coach for his Thunder Bay Jr A team.

Returning home to raise a family, Goose worked tirelessly with local minor hockey programs in Southpoint at various age groups. Most recently guiding the blueline for the Midget Major group in 2016-17, helping lead them to a Bluewater Championship.

The Sharks are extremely excited to have Goose guiding the blueline, his knowledgebase, and communication skills will complement the staff currently assembled.

Head Trainer - Adam Ripley

Rip, as he's known around the rink, is a highly experienced athletic trainer, and has worked for several Junior Hockey teams including the Chatham Maroons & Essex 73s. As the teams Head Trainer, he always put the players needs first.

 

Assistant Trainer - Ken Dawson

Daws, as he's known around Wheatley, has served the club for the better part of 2 decades in various roles. Daws will be responsible for coordinating the clubs equipment while serving to aid Rip with Trainers duties during practices & games for this upcoming season.  The Sharks are lucky to have long serving volunteers like Daws. 

 

Equipment Manager - Rick Woelk

Raoul, as he's known around Wheatley, has served the club for the better part of 2 decades in various roles. Raoul will manage the day to day needs of the club, from equipment issues, to locker room stall assignments, to laundry, and travel planning for away games.  The Sharks are lucky to have long serving volunteers like Raoul.

 

Team Doctor - Dr. Mark Dubreuil

Mark Dubreuil is a chiropractor who operates the Tilbury Rehab Centre and Tecumseh’s CARE Concussion Centre.  Mark has specialized in concussion protocol and is one of the best in the area.

 

Area Scouts - Terry Quick, Jay Ottley

Quicky & Otter, as they are known around Wheatley & Leamington, are long serving volunteers on both the local minor hockey & junior fronts. The Sharks are lucky to have local scouts with their years of experience and knowledge of the game. Otter & Quicky will be responsible for scouting U16 & U18 hockey in Essex & Kent counties. 

Strength & Conditioning Coach - Dylan Enns

Dylan, a former Shark and native of Leamington, owns & operates DE Fitness & Performance. He will work off ice with players this season.
